A Luxury New York Penthouse’s Sophisticated Principal Bedroom

With unbeatable views over Manhattan, this modish-inspired bedroom we designed is a sanctuary of calm suspended above the city. Distinguishable areas for sleeping, working and enjoying some down-time make it an inviting place to relax, reflect and recharge. Statement furnishings include bevelled mirrors, rosewood bedside cabinets and a vintage wingback armchair that’s perfect for curling up with a book.

For our work on this project, our luxury interior design studio was included in the Top 100 International Interior Designers in the Interior Design Review 2017, were shortlisted for the International Design and Architecture Awards, 2018 and were finalists at the SBID International Design Awards 2018.

Get the look

One of the key features of this luxurious bedroom is the floor-to-ceiling windows which keep the mood and appearance ever-changing throughout the day. Bevelled mirrors on either side of the bed cast light and reflections across the room.

Similar styles like this ‘Broadway’ standing mirror made of charred ash wood and brass metal inserts and the ‘Madison’ made from American walnut with a copper-plated metal base, both by Anton Maka, can be found on 1st Dibs.

We kept the walls neutral but dressed them up subtly with the ‘Marsh’ wallpaper from Arte International’s Avalon collection, which emulates woven grass for an exotic feel.

A Luxury Functional Workspace

Making the most of every square foot while distinguishing an area for work or study was key for our client. Our luxury interior design studio selected a Princeton desk by Hugues Chevalier in black lacquered wood and leather for a sumptuous and masculine feel.

A hardworking but understated lamp illuminates the desk area. Find similar styles from Restoration Hardware with this z-bar task table lamp with an adjustable LED head or the elegant Equo lamp in polished chrome with adjustable brightness at the touch of a finger.

Vintage Design Accents

A vintage wingback armchair in grey and blue reflects the colour choices for the room. The marble and metal side table it sits next to complements the geometric patterns of the chair with circular and cubic shapes.

Get the look with this C-shaped Murray side table from West Elm, or a mid-century style which combines a marble top with mango wood and polished antique brass. Also from West Elm, the slightly larger Maisie Side Table is a great option for those with a little more space.

For desk seating, the Saarinen Conference Armchair designed by Eero Saarinen for Knoll is the perfect sophisticated statement piece.

Bookmatched Rosewood Cabinets

Rosewood bedside cabinets were placed in front of the bevelled mirrors on either side of the bed. Achieve a similar feel with these 1960s mid-century Danish bedside chests from 1st Dibs. The newly restored pair come in book-matched rosewood in the manner of Hans Wegner. A set of West Elm’s Pillar Table Lamps in antique brass complete the look.
