Revived Late-Edwardian Apartment

St. John's Wood, London

This luxurious living/dining room showcases a stunning blend of elegance and comfort. The wooden flooring sets a warm and inviting tone, complemented by the blue walls that add a touch of tranquillity. A bronze textured cabinet, adorned with tropical plants, adds a sophisticated element to the space. Two boss armchairs covered in Edelman leather, adorned with a blue and grey throw, rest on a textured grey/blue rug next to a grey sofa. A marble top, side table with a gold and white lamp stands beside the armchairs. On the other side of the room, a circular white dining table surrounded by yellow dining chairs with black legs creates a vibrant and stylish dining area. The room is completed with a fireplace featuring a white mantel and a circular mirror above it, adding a touch of classic charm.

Art Deco Inspired Design for a Classic Period Property

This three bedroom late-Edwardian home is situated on the much desired Hamilton Terrace in one of London’s prime locations, St John’s Wood. The property required a time-sensitive back-to-brick refurbishment which we completed in under four months. We provided full interior architectural services and took design inspiration from a combination of eras, particularly Art Deco influences from the 1920s which we fused with the classic period features already present within the apartment. As testament to its beauty, our design won Best Interior Design Apartment UK at the International Property Awards (2018-2019), Best Interior Design Apartment in London at the UK Property Awards (2018-2019), Best Interior Design: Individual Home at the The Sunday Times British Home Awards 2018 and more.

Block-Colours, Geometric Patterns and Gold Accents

Our interior design Kensington scheme was art nouveau-inspired with a mid-century modernist twist. We created more space by returning the ceilings to their original late-Edwardian proportions and kept the flooring neutral with natural wood. A limestone fireplace with gold accents from luxury fireplace supplier, Chesneys, takes centre stage in the living area. A pop art portrait by celebrated Belgian artist Christian Develter sits opposite an iconic Tom Faulkner ‘Ava’ round dining table. The strong, sculptural, geometric central support is finished with a Calacatta marble top and surrounded by Tom Faulkner Vienna chairs in maize yellow fabric. A combination of soft furnishings in neutral tones, ochre yellow and different shades of blue keep the interiors here feeling warm and inviting.

Home Entertaining Space with a Cocktail Lounge Feel

Our client was keen for us to design a home that was the ideal environment for entertaining. The open-plan kitchen, living and dining interiors fit and flow together and an intimate wine bar area provides the perfect perch for a guest to sit and enjoy a drink while chatting to their host in the Bulthaup-designed kitchen. We converted the living area into a large, multi-purpose living space that is warm, relaxed, comfortable and semi-formal as well as dog friendly.

A Carefully Curated London Home with Bespoke Finishes

Every aspect of this London home was carefully curated, from the lighting design to the colour selections. Our London design studio worked alongside a network of talented artisans and collaborators to create a bespoke axed wood console unit and a charred timber drinks cabinet, both of which complement the space’s natural feel. With plenty of clean lines and bold angles, it is a block-coloured haven of geometric design. We went heavy on rich materials to add a sense of opulence that’s characteristic of the art-deco era. This is seen in our use of cast bronze panels for the joinery in the television unit that sits in the living room.

This luxury living room exudes a classic and refined ambiance. Two brown leather armchairs with striped grey and blue cushions, adorned with a white throw, create a cosy seating area. Light wood flooring complements the space, enhanced by a striped rug that adds texture and visual interest. The light grey painted walls provide a neutral backdrop, while a hanging green plant in one corner brings a touch of nature indoors. A Chesney limestone fireplace with a white mantel becomes a focal point, adorned with carefully placed ornaments. A large circular mirror above the fireplace adds depth and reflects the room's elegance. A chow chow puppy sitting on a flexform ottoman in front of large blue artwork.

A Characterful Bedroom with Bold Colourful Statement Wallpaper

We wanted the guest bedroom to make an impact. We opted for a flamingo and fauna patterned wallpaper by Arte which adds texture and gives a bold and colourful feel to the enchanting bedroom. We sourced a De La Espada bed with a wraparound headboard and paired it with floating bedside tables and sleek ‘Stasis’ copper table lamps by Bert Frank. Lush velvet cushions with contrast piping by Andrew Martin add a cosy touch.

This luxurious bedroom offers an inviting and stylish atmosphere. The de la espadea dubois double bed features a unique yellow and dark wood upholstered headboard with a built-in side table, providing convenience and elegance. A gold stasis bedside light adds a touch of glamour. The white bedsheets are adorned with plum and yellow accent cushions, accompanied by a cosy grey knitted blanket. The Arte International wallpapered wall in shades of grey and yellow showcases playful flamingos and vibrant plants, creating a delightful focal point. White skirting boards and light wood flooring contribute to the room's bright and sophisticated ambiance. A pair of worn white Converse shoes placed next to the bed adds a charming personal touch. Functional, Beautiful Pieces of Custom-Made Furniture

We worked closely with a team of craftsmen to design and create functional, beautiful pieces of bespoke furniture which would be suitable for everyday use. Keen to showcase how an efficient use of space doesn’t have to mean compromising on style, the furniture and joinery commissioned provided plenty of concealed storage. In the principal bedroom we layered textures and materials such as hand cast metallic panels on the headboards and fitted spacious integrated wardrobes by Poliform.

This luxurious bedroom showcases an exquisite design and a serene ambiance. The double bed features a striking bronze headboard with a suspended attached bedside table, while a blue/teal fabric panel adds a touch of elegance. A book light is conveniently attached to the headboard, with a pendant light hanging above, providing functional and atmospheric lighting. The bed is adorned with white bedding, with a dark purple accent cushion and a fluffy white throw, inviting ultimate comfort. The light wood floor adds warmth to the room, while the lilac painted walls with white skirting create a soft and calming backdrop Bedroom walls painted in cuisse de nymphe emue by Edward Bulmer

Award-Winning Interiors and Specialist Lighting

With lighting provided by award-winning specialists, John Cullen Lighting, throughout the property, the interiors were strikingly bright – enhanced by the addition of a large circular sitting room mirror which reflected light around the space. Decorative lighting was supplied by Bert Frank. We also wanted to optimise the abundance of natural light which the Edwardian property receives, so we made sure to not block any of the natural light. Bay windows in the living area and a double set of french doors in the principle bedroom with adjoining balconies were kept unobstructed, simply framed with floor-to-ceiling cashmere curtains.

Modern bathroom with black fixtures and pink walls. This luxurious bathroom features a sleek and contemporary design. The shower is adorned with grey stone walls and a built-in shelf, beautifully illuminated by John Cullen lighting. On the shelf, bottles of body wash are neatly displayed alongside a small potted plant, adding a touch of nature. The opposite wall showcases textured grey tiles, with a black shower head and panel creating a stylish contrast.

Home Office Design for a Converted Bedroom

The third bedroom in this period property was converted into a study so that the client could have a home office. We incorporated bespoke joinery with concealed storage and hand finished metallic door fronts and kept the design scheme for this room light, bright and energising for maximum productivity.
