A Blissful Union of Natural Layers

Pimlico, London

Layered natural elegance and textural harmony

Inside St Georges, a stucco-fronted Pimlico home, the beauty of layering natural materials and contrasting textures has been embraced to the fullest extent. Aesthetic depth flourishes in the various tones of wood and ribbing detail which flows throughout. The result is the creation of an airy and open space with textural depth and an intensely calming yet welcoming aura, a home where the heart certainly is.

A Lavish Living Room

The living room is a masterclass in layering natural textures denoting warmth and space. A luxuriously veined Art-Deco-inspired marble fireplace is the focus of the room, while stained oak joinery to the right and left frames the area with an aesthetically pleasing layered effect. A round marble coffee table in a darker, more earthy hue contrasts yet complements the marble fireplace area perfectly. Softness and luxury is added thanks to a variety of soft furnishings, including a swivel armchair in rich, Dedar fabric, plump, patterned cushions in warm linear hues and a rich, thick mustard olive rug.

A Fantastic Flow

Elements of nature and material luxury flow from the living room to the kitchen and dining space with the continuation of stained oak joinery and oak floorboards. In the dining space sits Guillerme et Chambron dining chairs reupholstered in sumptuous, patterned fabric. Further texture diversity is seen in the kitchen table with its ribbed wooden base and striking hollow circular design drawing the eye to the intriguing wooden patterns.

Artistic Highlights

StairIn the hallway, fluted wooden doors signal an area for under-stairs storage, a practical yet eye-catching addition to the space, grounding it further in textural depth. Next to the stairs, a compelling piece of art hangs. ‘More Sky’ by artist Struan Teague, which features oil pastel and pencil, further adds to the theme of nature and the abundance of naturally derived materials in the space. A smooth, golden-brown bannister leads the visitor upstairs from the pleasantly rounded bottom step of the staircase to the hallway area, where another piece of art, this time a specialist commission by Matthias Fabre, grounds the upstairs space in earthy brown and burgundy tones. Luxury with notes of Art-Deco inspiration occurs again, thanks to a striking hanging metallic light fixture.

A 'Boudoir' Bedroom Effect

Stylish comfort, aesthetic luxury and the unique charm of texture-diverse natural materials combine again in the bedrooms which channel a cosy, comfortable boudoir feel. In the principal bedroom, a Dedar Tiger Mountain fabric headboard marks the centre of the space and opulent hanging curtains in a neutral stone colour are framed by fluted wooden wardrobes and side tables. A piece of art by Lawrence Calver hangs beside the bed which features dyed silk and cotton material in muted, earthy brown hues, a nod to the comfort and calming aura of the space.

In another bedroom, multiple textures and the art of layering is seen via luxurious soft furnishings. The hanging curtains are reminiscent of a tapestry style aesthetic, the creamy wide ribbed headboard exudes elegance, and a patterned decorative pillow and throw blanket in rusty, muted pink tones complement the room’s palette.

Calmly Consistent Detailing

Consistent detailing defines this home and creates a sense of textural flow from the stained oak joinery which runs from the living room to the kitchen to dynamic texture additions in the upstairs bathrooms. In one, a ribbed wooden vanity forms provides attractive storage space. In another, patterned wallpaper resembling falling leaves pairs with a charcoal wall-hung marble basin and a richly patterned marble floor in green and brown tones, evoking a forest floor. A beautifully placed piece of art in blended earthy tones perfectly juxtaposes the leaf-patterned wallpaper.

Throughout, St Georges is a natural and texture-intelligent home where design contrasts create an artwork of breathable, liveable and depth-filled spaces.
